Opening Conference
The opening of the Winter School will be conducted by the Prof. Dr. Martin Coy and Prof. Dr. Markus Schermer from the Institute of Geography - Universität Innsbruck (Austria). It aims to present the Winter School’s objectives and to address the regional development theme.

Round table:
The Round table "Regional Development: New Theoretical and Methodological Contributions" will bring together researchers from Graduate Programs in Regional Development of UNISC, FURB, UNIJUÍ, the Institute of Geography - Universität Innsbruck and the Doctorate in Social Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto. The round table aims to promote a debate on different theoretical and methodological approaches applied to regional development, based on the contributions and reflections proposed by the participating Graduate Programs in order to enhance the debate in regional development field as well as value the knowledge produced by the Programs.

Research Seminars:
The Research seminars will be the main focus of the Winter School. The objective is to provide the participants moments of exchange in terms of experiences, knowledge, discussion and debate. They consist on a set of presentations, discussions and successive debates, related to some selected students’ dissertation projects. Therefore, the doctoral students will present their projects orally to other students and professors within the time of 30 minutes. After each presentation, students and professors may discuss and point out their contributions regarding to the project aiming to contribute with its theoretical and methodological improvement. Such contributions should be done through brief and objective interventions, within the limited time of 60 minutes, in order to build a productive and pedagogical debate. A laptop and a multimedia projector will be available for the presentations.
All the dissertation projects will be available in a virtual room at UNISC´s website by the end of July 2017. Thus, all participants will be able to read the projects in advance, enabling an active participation, a good debate and the exchange of experiences on the content as well as a methodological design of the projects. Information on how to access the virtual room will be provided after registration is confirmed.
Students who have not been selected for the Winter School will be able to attend the Research Seminars as listeners.

Fieldwork:
The Fieldwork aims to provide students and professors with contact and observation of the Rio Pardo Valley region (Rio Grande do Sul / Brazil), especially towards its territorial organization, landscape and rural development dynamics by visiting small family farms. A colonial lunch in one of the rural properties is included in the fieldwork schedule.

Evaluation of activities and planning of the next Winter School:
As the last stage, there will be an overall evaluation regarding to the activities and the outcomes obtained from the first edition of the Winter School. Moreover, the planning involves the definition on the institution which will be responsible for hosting the next edition of the Winter School, to be held in August 2018, as well as its central theme.
