Program

General Aim

The Program of the Master's degree in Letras (Language and Literature) has the general objective of consolidating the research in the areas of Reading and Cognition, in order to qualify human resources for acting as teachers, researchers, and specific professional activities of Letras and correlated areas.

Specific Objectives

• to open a research field that integrates different apporaches to reading and cognition.
• to build pluri-, inter- and transdisciplinary connections among inherent knowledge to the area of Letras and its related  ones - Pedagogy, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Communication, Law and History – concerning reading and cognition issues.
• to study reading as a process of meaning construction, based on theoretical perspectives and differentiated textual typologies.
• to develop research projects to investigate the cognitive reading processes, in order to promote the formation of competent readers.
• to consolidate UNISC close relationship with the community, aimed at developing education reading.

Target Audience

Graduates in several areas of knowledge, preferebly Letras and related areas, such as Pedagogy, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Communication, Law, History, among others.

Professional Outcomes

• University teaching;
• Research;
• Development of public policies to improve reading levels in schools and Departments of Education;
• Supervising teaching of different disciplines.
